What is the link between fractions, decimals and percentages?
The Trio of Numerical Expression: Fractions, Decimals, and Percentages
Imagine you have a delicious pizza divided into 4 equal parts and you eat 1 slice. You could say you ate of the pizza (fraction), or 0.25 of the pizza (decimal), or even 25% of it (percentage). These three ways of expressing quantities are interconnected, each offering a unique perspective on the part of a whole you enjoyed.
Understanding Fractions, Decimals, and Percentages
- Fraction: Shows part of a whole, like , where the top number (numerator) tells how many parts you have, and the bottom number (denominator) shows how many equal parts make up the whole.
- Decimal: Shows part of a whole as a number after a decimal point, like
- Percentage: A fraction out of 100, often written with a "" symbol like
