Coursework Overview
Component 3 of the IGCSE English Literature course involves completing a coursework portfolio. While Paper 1 is a mandatory exam, you will either take Paper 2 or submit this coursework portfolio to complete the qualification.
What Is Component 3?
This coursework offers you the chance to develop your writing skills over time, without the pressure of an exam. You can explore topics that interest you, refine your work independently, and produce high-quality pieces that reflect your best efforts.
You will complete three written assignments, with the portfolio worth 80 marks in total. Each piece should be 500–800 words and include the following:
- Assignment 1: A persuasive, discursive, or argumentative response to a text or texts.
- Assignment 2: A descriptive piece.
- Assignment 3: A narrative story.
Mark allocation:
- 65 marks for your writing across all assignments.
- 15 marks for your reading skills in Assignment 1.
Your work can be handwritten or typed. You must submit the first draft of one of your assignments, along with the text(s) used for Assignment 1.
